Who Am I?

From the visible aspects of my identity, you can see I am female, I am a woman of color and some have told me I look young. My visible aspects have led me to experience racism, sexism and ageism. I also have been told: “you’re a young woman of color and you’ll need to work harder to achieve the same thing as someone who enjoys privileges that you don’t have”. These experiences and voices have helped me develop courage, strength and compassion.

Digging into my invisible aspects, I am an educator and advocate for children’s play. My invisible identity is partly attributed to my early childhood education. These early experiences with school has helped me to understand the importance of perseverance, curiosity and a growth mindset.

My beliefs and values are impacted by both my visible and invisible identities. These aspects have helped me prioritize the importance of equal and shared opportunities for growth and development for both young and adult learners. Acting on my beliefs and values, I believe that teacher learning and leadership training hold significant impact on student success.

These give me purpose and define the ‘why’ behind my work as an education consultant. By supporting teachers and leaders, I know I can have a high impact on learning and learners.
