The Tapestry of Play
REGISTER HERE
Play is a process that affords children with sustained time to observe, investigate & collaborate. Play isn’t a luxury; it's a necessity. However, it isn't just any play. This course is focused on designing intentional & purposeful play by developing an understanding of how adults support children’s play, utilize the environment as the 3rd educator & involve students in the process.
The Power of the Environment in Social & Emotional Learning
REGISTER HERE
This course explores the power of the classroom environment in shaping SEL for young learners. The spaces, routines, & interactions & transactions created within those spaces, need to be intentionally designed to nurture the development of social & emotional competencies. The environment holds importance beyond its functionality; why leave it up to chance?
Just as adults have preferences for what & how they choose to learn, so too, do students. When students are offered opportunities to engage in something in ways that most appeal to them, they will do so with great enthusiasm. This can be harnessed by differentiating instruction.

This course is framed around 5 keys to differentiating instruction:

-
Knowing our students & ourselves as educators
-
Knowing our curriculum
-
Knowing our collegial relationships
-
Knowing our assessments
-
Developing a repertoire of strategies
TESTIMONIALS
I'm thrilled to have completed Tapestry of Play Part 2, hosted by the amazing @jennifer wong-powell. She really knows how to inspire us to take a moment to observe our students and figure out what truly engages them. Her emphasis on promoting collaboration among our Early Explorers is invaluable, and she encourages us to give our students the chance to take risks, fostering lifelong skills like respecting equipment. If you ever get the opportunity, I highly recommend taking this course. ~ Abbie
